Motherboard replacing is the only reason for changing your Registration Number. However, replacing DRAM modules does not affect to this. So, you can reprogram SPD of as many DRAM modules as you need on one PC. After upgrading its hardware, you are allowed to obtain a new license for free, but no more than one license per year. Please do not try to transfer your Thaiphoon Burner license to another computer since the program will generate a different Registration Number and will not accept your Regdata.rkf license file.
The most probable reason for this issue is an unsupported SMBus Controller of your processor or chipset. Please refer to the supported hardware enumerated on the Download page to check whether the program is capable of reading SPD on your system. Besides, if the kernel mode driver of Thaiphoon Burner has been blocked by Windows from being loaded, the program will cannot detect SPD EEPROMs connected to the SMBus. Just select “Run as administrator” from a context menu of Thaiphoon.exe file to permit Windows to load the driver. No need to disabled UAC feature first. On server platforms enabled TSOD polling feature does not let SPD to be accessed. The user has to disable the "Closed Loop Thermal Throttling" BIOS option before using Thaiphoon Burner.
No any virtual machine enable the user to access the real hardware of the computer. The virtual machine just emulates a common PC hardware configuration that is not related to the real one. For this reason, it is not possible to reprogram SPD EEPROM device in WMWare.

The first 128 bytes of 2-Kbit SPD may be protected from being written because of enabled RSWP (Reversible Software Write Protection), PSPW (Permanent Software Write Protection) or hardware SPD EEPROM protection. So when you are trying to alter any module specific information changes are not saved to the SPD EEPROM chip. However the second half (80h – FFh) of SPD bytes usually remains unprotected enabling the user to program Intel XMP profiles. In case of 4-Kbit SPD EEPROM (specific for DDR4 modules) 180h – 1FFh address ranges is found to be write-protected on the modules of these DIMM manufacturers.
After programming a new clock frequency into SPD EEPROM, the DRAM Controller may continue to operate at the old settings. This problem is typical for notebooks and related to the BIOS that should always detect new hardware at Power-On Self-Test (POST) and configure all computer parameters accordingly. To force the BIOS to re-initialize all hardware parameters, including SPD settings, turn off the notebook and physically remove and re-insert the battery.
